Case Study - Scottish Ambulance Service "punch-out" for uniforms
Background
Scottish Ambulance Service have gone live with their "punch-out" connection for the ordering of all their uniform and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements with Wessex Textiles. Spending around £500k per annum and generating 3,000 orders each year ordering uniforms using paper pads presented difficulties in updating items and prices and capturing management information - until eProcurement Scotl@nd offered a better solution.
Introducing a punch-out site provided the capability for users to personalise their requirements (eg sizing, badging etc) with the minimum of fuss, and provided a more attractive presentation of the available items than a standard text-only catalogue. It also reduced the catalogue maintenance work required to keep prices and products updated as a direct feed is taken from the Wessex sales system.
Customer's Viewpoint
Jenny Neville, Head of Procurement, Scottish Ambulance Service says "We are very pleased with the Wessex punch-out site. It is easy to use and quicker than the previous paper-based ordering system, and it clearly illustrates all the PPE and uniform items available to ambulance service staff."
Russell Page, Acting Area Service Manager, Non-Emergency Service , Aberdeen describes the benefits "All the ambulance officers in the division are now using the Wessex site. Before, all the paper work had to come into my office for approval then be sent back to the relevant officer. This could take up to a week before the order was placed. Now they order on-line using ePS and I approve electronically without any paperwork having to be sent. All the officers have said that the new system is easy to use and the orders are coming through quicker. So in Grampian ordering through ePS is making everybody's hectic life a lot easier".
Supplier's Viewpoint
Neil Glinn, Sales Manager, Wessex Textiles says "We are delighted with the system which is a major step forward in the way that our customers place orders. The advantage for us is that orders go direct into our data base system. This means we are saving time by not inputting orders and can concentrate on picking and despatching. We are now looking to implement on-line ordering to all our customers throughout the UK.
